Young Quilters at the Festival of Quilts 2015

Thank you to all of the Young Quilter members who entered the ‘Patchwork Magic' Challenge at the Festival of Quilts this year! Well done to Ashleigh (Region 10) who won 1st prize in the 9-11 category! Her inspiration came from the magic shows she has seen! Well done! Also Danai-Rae from region 5 was awarded a highly commended for her horses quilt - Congratulations!

And here’s what other YQs had to say about their quilts:

Catherine, Region 14

‘I found it challenging to think of something for patchwork magic. I had lots of different patches but didn’t know how I wanted to use them. I listed the reasons why the patchwork was magic to me. Looking at the list I knew I had to put them on my quilt.’

Joseph, Region 3 (In the photo to the right)

‘For the magical theme of patchwork magic, I decided to use magical-looking batik colours in the patchwork. The white applique on top of the black allows the shapes to stand out. The magical shapes capture the majority of the traditional acts of a magician’s show.’

Danai Rai, Region 5

'I love horses, I used appliqued horse pattern by B.J designs which I mirror imaged choosing all the coloured fabrics myself, the borders are pieced with jelly roll fabrics. I fabric painted all border horses.'
